Major achievements 

In the UK, Marie Stopes International’s major achievements include:

• providing client 138,472 client services and receiving 301,675 calls for information and bookings via the call centre during 2006 alone
• being the largest provider of abortion services outside the NHS, performing over a third of all procedures in England and Wales each year
• being the partner of choice for over 70 Primary Care Trusts in the NHS
• developing the centralised 24 hour booking system so that clients have prompt access to all of Marie Stopes International’s services. For abortion, women wait no more than 3 days for an initial consultation and treatment can take place within 5 days of first contact; for female sterilisation and vasectomy, appointments are available within a few weeks of first contact
• an innovative approach – Marie Stopes International has pioneered the way abortion and sterilisation services are provided. Every aspect of service delivery from booking through to dedicated post treatment aftercare has been designed with client in safety, quality and convenience in mind
• being BS EN ISO 9001:2000 accredited and having the prestigious Investors in People Standard reaffirmed in 2007. The Investors in People Standard is given to organisations which have reached a high standard of developing strategies to improve performance through developing the people that work for it
• the contribution made by the UK programme to Marie Stopes International programmes around the world. Both in financial terms, through a proportion of the surplus generated by the fees charged in the UK, and in human terms through sharing lessons learnt and providing expertise
