Our recommendations
Forty years on since the legalisation of abortion and the requirement for two doctors to approve a woman’s request for abortion, under the 1967 Abortion Act, remains.
Marie Stopes International, as the UK’s leading abortion provider, believes the 1967 Act should be updated to reflect modern day life, enabling women to make the most effective choices regarding their fertility, planning and spacing of their families.
It is calling for the Act to enshrine a woman’s right to choose and self-determination, allowing abortion on request and to be extended to women in Northern Ireland.
