Dr Paula Franklin, Medical Director for Marie Stopes International UK and Europe says,
"We welcome the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists' revised guidelines for women seeking induced abortions.
Whilst Marie Stopes International's guiding principle is to respect and support a woman's right to choose, it is guidance from professional bodies like the RCOG that form the foundation of our clinical practice. We aim to deliver the best possible care to our clients and are always pleased therefore to receive and use evidence based guidance.
Furthermore, we are pleased to see our long held position on counselling has been strengthened by these guidelines. Women must have rapid access to impartial, non-directive and expert support from trained counsellors, if they decide they want it. The majority of the women who come to us have already made their decision and opt out of counselling – we believe it is right to respect their choice."
