A guide to costs

More than 95% of our clients have their abortion funded by the NHS.

You can pay to have one privately if you prefer or you’re not eligible for NHS funding.

To find out if you qualify for NHS-funded treatment, call our advice line today on 0345 300 8090. They can also tell you about private treatment.

Can I get an abortion on the NHS?

Most women can – more than 95% of Marie Stopes abortions in the UK are funded by the NHS.

Your GP can refer you to our abortion services, if you like. However, you may also be able to refer yourself for an abortion with us, and don’t have to tell your GP about wanting an abortion if you don’t want to. Call our 24-hour advice line on 0345 300 8090 to check if you’re eligible for NHS funding, and to book a consultation.

While abortion care is not available on the NHS for women in Northern Ireland, in June 2017 the UK Government announced they would commit to cover the cost of abortion care for women from Northern Ireland who are treated in England.

What if I don’t qualify for NHS funding?

If you’re not eligible for NHS funding, we also provide private abortion treatment.

You’ll find a list of our fees further down this page.

You can pay in cash (pound sterling or euros) or by credit/debit card – and you’ll need to make the payment in person when you come to your appointment. If someone else is paying for you by card, they’ll need to come too.

If you think you’ll have any difficulty paying for your abortion, please call us to discuss this before your appointment.
