Marie Stopes UK welcomes new Medical Director
London, 5th February 2020: Marie Stopes UK, one of the UK’s leading providers of safe abortion, is delighted to welcome Dr Jonathan Lord as its new Medical Director.
Consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro since 2004, Jonathan has not only delivered abortion care for most of his career, he has also helped shape national policy.
As co-chair of the British Society of Abortion Care Providers (BSACP), he supported the training and implementation of abortion care in the Republic of Ireland and been a mentor for several Irish GPs as they established their service. He served as the NHS clinician representative on the NICE abortion care guidelines, while as co-chair of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) Abortion Taskforce, he is now working with key decision makers to implement them.
At the end of 2018, alongside Marie Stopes UK’s former medical director Imogen Stephens, he also led the development of a new national guideline on the home use of misoprostol, enabling providers to implement best practice and reassuring government that the process would be safe.
It is clear that Jonathan is committed to delivering the highest quality reproductive healthcare and says that he was drawn to Marie Stopes UK after witnessing first-hand the enthusiasm, passion, commitment and shared values in delivering excellence.
