Side effects may occur whilst you’re traveling home. During your treatment with Marie Stopes UK, you will be given an aftercare leaflet which will give you essential information about your care. We advise you to read our Aftercare Leaflet concerning the side effects of the antibiotics and pain relief drugs you will be prescribed.

  • Make sure you have thought about how you will manage possible bleeding and pain during your flight/journey
  • Drink plenty of water – avoid alcohol and caffeine drinks
  • Mobilise frequently during any flight to prevent the risk of thromboembolism/blood clots
  • If you experience leg pain, leg swelling, chest pain, breathlessness, dizziness or fainting either during or soon after a flight – it is really important you seek emergency medical attention
  • We also advise you to read the details related to your travel ticket very carefully. If you are flying, taking a ferry or travelling by coach, you might have to declare that you are having surgery.
