Don’t forget to mention you live in Ireland or Northern Ireland when you call us so we may be able to book your consultation and treatment on the same day.

What happens after I get in touch with Marie Stopes UK?

Once you get in touch with us, we will offer you access to a consultation which can be done over the phone or face to face in a clinic which is most suitable for you. This consultation can happen in our Belfast Clinic if you live in Northern Ireland for example or through one of our partner organisations such as Reproductive Choices in Dublin or with another qualified provider in Ireland [hyperlink to useful contacts page].

You will then usually receive a scan to determine how many weeks you have been pregnant for (gestation). This helps determine which abortion method you may qualify for. You will then be able to decide which option might be best suited to you depending on your gestation, medical history and other factors.

What is a consultation and why do it need it?

A consultation is a brief medical assessment, which purpose is to assess:

  • If you are pregnant
  • Your gestation - how many weeks you have been pregnant for in order to assess which abortion methods might be available to you
  • If you have considered all your options in relation to your pregnancy
  • If you would like to speak to one of our counsellors at any point
  • Find a clinic where you might receive your treatment
  • As an Irish women, you will also be asked to confirm that you are coming to Marie Stopes UK privately and will pay for your treatment

Keeping your details secure

We will then take a few personal details to book your appointment. These details captured will be 100% confidential. To protect your information and keep your details confidential and secure, we will set up a PIN and password for you which you will need to keep safe. We will then be able to confirm your appointment details - date, time and address of the clinic or centre - if you have decided to proceed. We will ask you if you would like a confirmation to be sent to you by text, letter or email.
