How long will I need to stay if I am travelling from Ireland or Northern Ireland?

Deciding to travel from Ireland to have access to legal and safe abortion treatment can be a difficult choice to make both financially and emotionally. At Marie Stopes UK, our mission is to provide you with as much information as possible so you know what to expect and are able to make arrangements in advance.

Please find below our recommendations* for travel.

How long will I have to stay in England or Belfast for my abortion treatment?

Because the journey back to Ireland is short (below 3 hours) you may be able to fly back to Ireland on the same day.  The table below details how long you may need to stay in England depending on gestation, treatment type and whether you will need to be accompanied or not.

You should do this before booking tickets to ensure it is acceptable within their agreement terms and conditions. This is particularly relevant for people travelling by plane and less restricting for the other means of transport. 

Marie Stopes UK cannot be held responsible if a client chooses to travel against medical advice or without correctly notifying their relevant passenger carrier and will not fund a client’s return travel expenses.

We offer Free Taxi for Women travelling from Ireland 

We provide Free Taxi Transfers from and to the airport or ferry port if you are travelling from Ireland or Northern Ireland to any of our clinics or centres in the UK.
